Christmas is the time when kids tell Santa what they want and adults pay for it. Deficits are when adults tell government what they want and their kids pay for it.”

Did Tiger Woods And Phil Mickelson Receive $2.5 Million In Illegal Appearance Fees This Weekend?
Both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson missed the cut this weekend at the Greenbrier Classic. However, if the rumors are true, both golfers still went home with seven-figure checks just for showing up, something that is illegal on the PGA Tour.
According to Steve Eiling of CBSSports.com, multiple sources told him that Tiger received a $1.5 million appearance fee, and Mickelson received $1.0 million to play in the PGA event.
Eiling explains that tournaments can get around this rule by paying the players for “participating in a corporate clinic, or appearing at a cocktail party,” or something similar. And once the player is paid for that, it is expected that they will *cough, cough* also play in the tournament.
And while some don’t have a problem with the pay-for-play, and want the practice made legal, others fear that it will destroy the smaller tournaments that cannot afford to pay big stars to show up.
It’s hard to imagine the PGA Tour will be able to stop the payments. So it might be time to make the practice legal so that it is easier to control.
