‘Derren Brown cured my toothache!’ How TV trickster performed dentistry ‘miracle’ live on stage

TV trickster Derren Brown has turned dentist and helped cure a student’s excruciating toothache during his stage show of illusion and hypnotism. Zoe Aldcroft, from Birkenhead, went to the show with her boyfriend, Tom, after buying him tickets as a gift. But the sceptical 21-year-old never expected to be part of the performance in front of nearly 2,500 people in the audience, reports the Liverpool Echo. She said: “He got the whole audience to stand up and he did this motivational speech and asked us to close our eyes. “He then asked if anyone in the audience who had pain before now noticed that the pain

had gone away. “I had horrific pain in my wisdom teeth before and then when I opened my eyes it had gone.” Zoe, who had been suffering with pain in her teeth for weeks, couldn’t believe the pain had vanished and was asked to stand at the side of the stage with other audience members who claimed to have had their aches and pains cured.

Cure: Within minutes of meeting Brown Zoe been hypnotised and was lying on the floor
She said: “He asked those people who said their pain had gone to stand on the side of the stage. “There were about 30 people there but his assistant picked about six to go on stage. “We were asked where our pain was and some people were saying they felt anxious before and now didn’t, but they needed people who were suffering from a physical pain. “I told them about my bad toothache and how long I’d had it for and they took me on to the stage.” And when Zoe, who studies social care at Liverpool Hope University, met Derren on stage for the first time, within minutes she had been hypnotised and was lying on the floor. She added: “He put his hand on my hand and then I fell to the floor and I don’t remember what happened after that until I woke up “My boyfriend said Derren told me he was saying all this weird stuff like, ‘let the light go to your jaw’ and then about two minutes later I woke up and I had no pain at all.” Now the previously sceptical student from Birkenhead says she is a Derren Brown convert. Zoe said: “He’s very honest about what he does in the show. He says at the start that obviously none of it is real or magic and it’s all about the mind. “He is an athiest too so doesn’t believe that God can have anything to do with healing the body. “I didn’t expect the show to be that good, I thought I wasn’t going to believe anything, but it was great.”
